ALSO!!

i totes got three volunteers to let me draw them [naked ;)] as my final part to this blog project. i just need to find a place to do this cause i feel like my family would find it less normal than i do... hmm... studio after school? hahaha

musclez.

learning bout the torso / arm / how they are divided into separate sections. i never really looked at the torso as three sections: chest, abdomen, pelvis -- it will make it easier to draw if i think about it in those sections in comparison to one large shape.

i'm loving these colors! i want to do a large scale colored pencil [or maybe pastel...although i haven't tried that yet] drawing. i need a model...hmmm

i'm really enjoying working with color when drawing these figures, although this is a really bad scan of this sketch..., i think it makes the depths and creveses of the body stand out more. i want to work with colored pencils, pastels, and paint and continue to use color.

ideas

so, i've been thinking about what i'd want to do for my actual concentration, after these four weeks of blogging are done. and i think i want to do something like the picture above this post, sort of like a variety of different figure poses, all flowing together, at different points of being finished, but on a really large piece of paper. i don't know how i'm going to do that, unless i just make up the figures because i doubt i could get anyone to pose for me. i could get someone to pose in clothes or like a bathing suit or something. i think it's a cool idea, and i'd probably use charcoal because that's my favorite when figure drawing. i could also do a bunch of different large drawings of figures all in different mediums: charcoal, pencil, colored pencil, pastels, etc. i'd like to explore new mediums that way.

lookey here

so here's some examples of the work i've been doing from the book :)

yo br0z

so today i continued through the book, and did a few sketches of the full body in a few poses. i love how this book breaks down the body into shapes; it really is helpful to see how the body moves to make it much more realistic. i also began looking into the proportions of the face. i already knew the whole eyes are halfway down the head, and all that jazz, but the book also showed me the proportions of the side of the head, which i was unaware of. it's a tad late now so i can't upload my sketchbook photos of this, but i will tomorrow.
kbye :)

haisup

so i started sketching from said book. i found it really interesting how the figure is broken down into such simple shapes; it showed me how the body moves and curves. i think that these simple sketches with eventually really help me out with whatever i decide to do for my final project.
i'll post an example of some of the sketches i've done in justa-moment. :D

just spent like 20 minutes trying to figure out how to add a photo..turns out there's a button for it. yee.

day one

recently i have been exploring portraits of people through photography, drawing, and painting. however, i realize that i would love to go deeper into the entire human figure and try and explore that for the next four weeks. i chose to review the book "The Figure: An Artist's Approach to Drawing & Construction" by Walt Reed. the title is pretty self explanatory, and i hope that it provides me with new and interesting insight into the figure. i decided to start from the beginning at "The basic form figure". it showed me that each body part is broken down into simple and proportional shapes. the way the book breaks down those simple figures made everything seem a little less intimidating, and more plausible. the "ideal" body can be divided into seven head lengths that line up at the top of the head, the chin, the nipples, underneath the bellybutton, mid-thigh, above the knee, mid-shin, and the bottom of the foot. this proportion is extremely helpful because proportion is probably the easiest thing to mess up when figure drawing. the chapter continues with other proportions that include the hands and feet. tomorrow i will try and draw some of these proportions and get some practice.
